Installation:
Extract all of the files into a folder of your choice. Create a shortcut to Tlc.exe
and you're done! TLC creates an ini file and saves your original Logo backups in
its own folder, but it does not write configuration files to any other folder, or
alter the Registry in any way.
The VB4.0 runtime files must be installed on your computer in order for TLC to run.
Most computers have them installed anyhow, but if you find you need them, they can
be found on the 'Net very easily. The file to search for is vb40032.zip.
Manual:
OVERVIEW
Double click on Tlc.exe to launch the program. The main window presents several
menu entries and six text boxes that are utilized to select the desired Logos. From
this window you select the original Logos (logo.sys, logow.sys and logos.sys) to be
backed up. You can select different Logos, located anywhere on your hard drive(s)
to use for Boot and Shutdown, and you can restore your original Logos at any time.
Theme Logo Changer uses a handy Graphical Display to view your Logo selections while
making your choices.
The Graphical Display window is sized to the exact proportions of the Logo file and
can display graphics in BMP or SYS format.
STEP BY STEP
1. ***Very Important*** Select Configure from the Menu Bar. In the top drive
and directory selection boxes, navigate to your Boot Drive's ROOT directory (folder).
In most cases, this will be C:\. If you have Drivespaced your Boot Drive, you must
point Theme Logo Changer to the Host drive of Boot (e.g. H:\). If you do not identify
the Host drive to Theme Logo Changer, you will not be able to change your Boot Logo!!
In the lower selection boxes, navigate to your Windows directory. Usually, this will
be C:\Windows, but it can be anywhere, as long as it is your Windows95 directory.
Once these two directories have been identified, select the OK button, and Theme Logo
Changer will write an "ini" file to its' own directory.
2. The Main Window:
The main window is divided into two sections left and right. The left section is for
making backups of your original Logos. You only need to do this once, but be forewarned:
DO IT FIRST! If you don't, you will loose the original Logos.
3. Making Backups:
Check the boxes for the files you wish to back up. The text boxes for the three Logo
Screens are preset, but you can change the presets by simply clicking on the Folder
Icon to open the Preview Window. In the Preview Window, you can navigate to the file
of your choice. Alternatively, you can type the file's path into the text box manually.
Once the Logo files have been located, click the Backup button, and the files will be
backed up to the TLC folder.
By using the check boxes, you can easily backup one or all of the Logo files.
4. Restoring:
If you have previously backed up the original Logo files, restoring the Logos is as
easy as clicking the Restore button.
5. Changing Logo Screens:
On the right hand section, similar check/text box combinations are used for identifying
replacement Logo Screens.
Once again, check the boxes for the files you wish to change. Any or all of the three
is fine. Click the Folder Icon for each file to invoke the Preview Window, or type the
text into the box manually.
When you are satisfied as to your choices, click the Change Now button. As a safety
precaution, a prompt will ask if you wish to make backups first. If you have already
made backups (recommended), then click the No button, and the Logos will be changed.
Otherwise, choose the Yes button, and no changes will be made. You will be dumped
into the Main window again to allow backups to be made. (Clicking Yes here is
essentially the same as a Cancel button.)
BUG FIX IN THIS RELEASE, VERSION 1.01:
1. If your Windows 95 folder path is not "C:\Windows", then the Configure Dialog will
not open correctly. You will see an error message instead. This release removes a
reference to "C:\Windows" in the code that caused the error message. The configure
Dialog should work properly no matter what the Win95 folder is labeled.
